PARASHAR LAKE TREK

Time and again emphasis has been laid on the importance of traveling and connecting yourself to nature. On the same lines, we would like to bring forth another beautiful travel destination. Lying 49km to the north of Mandi in Himachal Pradesh Parashar lake is a three-storied pagoda-like temple. This temple is a remembrance of the sage Parashar.

Geographical Location

Located at a height of 2730m above sea level this lake is a treat to the eyes of the viewer. It lies in the Dhauladhar ranges of Kullu valley. This lake consists of 93 percent of water and the remaining 7 percent is floating land. The strange thing about this floating land or island is that it keeps changing its position. Hence it gets its name from its nature ‘floating island’. It’s Latitude and longitude coordinates are 31.754366, 77.101143 respectively. This lake is like a small oasis and is famous for trekking. It is surrounded by lush green mountains which are sometimes covered with snow and form a spectacular view.

Climatic Condition

There is no particular time to visit the Parashar lake. Temperature variations throughout the year are smooth. The lake changes according to the weather conditions. During the summer it remains pleasant. The temperature is low throughout the year owing to the high altitude of the location. During the monsoon, the area receives moderate rainfall and the lake is filled with water. During winters the temperature falls below freezing point and the water of the lake freezes sometimes partially and sometimes completely. The months of January and February witness snowfall. The temperature at the lake ranges from -5 to 25 degrees Celsius throughout the year. It is advisable to check the weather report before planning the trek or camping at this place.

Surrounded by the mountains this Trek is moderately difficult and can easily be completed by even a beginner. There is a motorable road available to reach the Prashar lake.
